The Jeep Wrangler is an off-road icon, with it providing drivers with the ability to travel far off the beaten path over the past three-and-a-half decades. The Wrangler is still going strong, with even greater off-road capabilities with its advanced four-wheel drive system, a ruggedly stylish design, powerful engine options, high-level utility, and a generous number of premium features. Another iconic off-road capable SUV is the Toyota Land Cruiser. See how the two models stack up in this 2020 Jeep Wrangler vs 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser comparison.
The 2020 Wrangler delivers excellent performance with its robust engine options. This includes the sophisticated 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel engine, which generates an impressive torque output of 442 lb-ft. The 5.7-liter V8 engine in the 2020 Land Cruiser generates just 401 lb-ft of torque. Another advantage on the performance front for the Wrangler is its longer wheelbase (118.4” vs 112.2” for the Land Cruiser), which provides more confident and stable handling. Also, in addition to its automatic transmission, the 2020 Wrangler offers a manual transmission, which is great for driving purists. The Land Cruiser only offers an automatic transmission.

While Toyota has eco-friendly credentials with its hybrid lineup, this is not reflected in the Land Cruiser, which gets a gas-guzzling estimated fuel economy of 13 city/17 hwy mpg. The Wrangler gets a more respectable estimated fuel economy of up to 22 city/29 hwy mpg. Also, unlike the Land Cruiser, the Wrangler has an engine start-stop system for select models. The system temporarily shuts off the engine when the vehicle is idling, resulting in improved fuel economy for city driving.
For enhanced convenience, the Wrangler offers a remote start system. In addition to remotely starting the engine, it gives you the ability to remotely turn on the heating system or air conditioning system in the vehicle. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer a remote start system.
