With rising fuel prices and the need for sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives, carmakers are investing heavily in hybrid technology and electric vehicles (EVs). In July last year, Stellantis revealed that 40% of its vehicles sold in North America will be electric by 2030, including Jeep SUVs, Ram pickups, and Dodge muscle cars. Jeep and Ram have already announced their hybridization and EV plans, and now Dodge is the latest automaker to jump on the electrification bandwagon. However, Dodge’s entry into the hybrid and EV space raises questions about the future of two of its most iconic models – the Dodge Challenger and Charger. Will Dodge discontinue them? Keep reading this blog from Stony Plain Chrysler in Stony Plain, AB, to find out.
Dodge has already begun its electrification process and has introduced its first hybrid vehicle in the form of the 2023 Dodge Hornet crossover SUV. However, what’s even more interesting is that Dodge has also announced seven special-edition “Last Call” models for the Challenger and Charger for the 2023 model year. These models will be inspired by Dodge’s iconic muscle car lineup and concepts from the past and bring some of the most notable features and design cues from previous years’ models.
So far, Dodge has announced six of the seven Challenger and Charger “Last Call” models, namely the 2023 Dodge Challenger Shakedown, Dodge Charger Super Bee, Dodge Challenger, and Charger Scat Pack Swinger, Dodge Charger King Daytona models, and the most recent one being the Dodge Challenger Black Ghost. The seventh and last of Dodge’s “Last Call” models will be announced at the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, scheduled for Nov. 1-4, 2022.
As their name suggests, the limited-run “Last Call” models celebrate the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger, which in their current form are coming to an end after the 2023 model year. This means Dodge will discontinue the gasoline Dodge Challenger and Charger models after these Last Call models.

Meanwhile, this won’t be the end of the Challenger and Charger models. Dodge will continue using the iconic Challenger and Charger nameplate beyond the 2023 model year and into its electrified future. And this is supported by the fact that Dodge recently unveiled the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept – which drives like a Dodge Charger, looks like a Dodge Charger, and feels like Dodge Charger but just happens to be a battery electric vehicle (BEV).
So, although it may seem like the end of an era of pure gasoline-powered Dodge muscle cars, the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger will “charge” into the electric future and “challenge” the norms just like they do in their current form.
If you’re a gasoline purist and want to get hold of the last of the gasoline-fueled Dodge muscle cars in the Edmonton, AB area, head over to the Stony Plain Chrysler dealership in Stony Plain, AB.
