360-degree camera tech in RAM trucks

How does the RAM 360-degree surround view camera work?

The 360-degree surround view camera is a thing of beauty for RAM trucks. It lets you see a bird’s eye view of your truck so that you can expertly maneuver around obstacles and have a greater awareness of your surroundings. How does the RAM 360-degree surround view camera work? We can provide some answers and give you an in-depth look at this innovative system.

What is a 360-degree surround view camera?

Its name is actually a little deceptive. The 360-degree surround view camera implies that there is just one camera in the system, but in reality, the 360-degree view camera system employs four cameras. It utilizes your backup camera along with a camera in your front grille and one under each of your side mirrors.

By utilizing four cameras, the system has a full view of your truck’s immediate surroundings. Instead of just presenting you the raw camera views, which could be confusing at best, the system goes a step further and actually processes the feeds and stitches them together to make the views contiguous. Afterward, it puts a representation of your truck in the center and suddenly it looks like you have a view from a camera somehow mounted 20 feet above your truck.
