All the auto manufacturers, including Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM are talking about Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You likely already know that it’s an easier way for you to connect your phone to your car, but is that all? Far from it. The modern smartphone can add a ton of functionality to your CDRJ vehicle. See what we mean as we explore CDJR Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.
You may think this is an apples and oranges comparison, but really it’s not. Through the interfaces of both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are very different, they mostly have the same functionality. Of course, you can only get Android Auto with a compatible Android phone and Apple CarPlay with a compatible iPhone, but beyond that, you will be accessing many of the same features.

Both Android and Apple are very upfront about what phones will work with these automotive integration apps, but for the most part, if you have a smartphone made in the last five years, you will have no trouble getting access. You just have to download the right app and plug in. They are also pretty good about walking you through the process.

You may notice that navigation was a very common feature a few years ago and now it has fallen off with many models only reserving the feature for top trims.
There’s a very simple reason for that. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can both provide navigation, direct to your screen, often with better maps and better functionality all without your car having built-in navigation. This does mean you need your phone to provide the GPS signal, but it also means a better navigation experience.
There are many apps that work with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For starters, almost any audio app will work including Spotify, iTunes, Pandora, Audible, and countless others.
Other apps that will integrate with a properly-equipped Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram include Waze, Skype WhatsApp, Kik, Messenger, and more! New apps are being added all the time too. Basically, if it makes sense to add some functionality with your car, you can bet it will eventually come to both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
