Advantages of LED headlights in Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM models

Are LED headlights better than traditional headlights?

If you are looking at cars in the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM lineups, then you’ve likely noticed that LED headlights are becoming more and more common, especially at higher trim levels. Are LED headlights better than traditional headlights? The short answer is yes, but let’s go into why.

Do LED headlights work better than traditional headlights?

LED headlights can be found in the 2019 Jeep Cherokee and much of the 2019 RAM 1500 lineup. Many other vehicles in the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM lineups also employ LED taillights or fog lights.

There’s a good reason for the proliferation of this new tech. They are brighter, use less power, and provide a crisper and clearer view of the road that’s a lot closer to daylight than traditional headlights.

Are LED headlights more expensive than traditional headlights?

Here’s the big kicker. After all those positives there is bound to be a negative, right? LED headlights are simply more expensive than traditional headlights or even HIDs.

Not only are the light emitters more expensive than traditional bulbs, but their versatility has led automakers to go wild with designs and these complicated designs are also harder and more expensive to replace. Luckily, there is one more LED upside that will outweigh this cost.

How often do you have to replace LED headlights?

This is the most insane metric about LED headlights. Assuming no faults in your electrical system and no external damage from collisions or accidents, LED headlights can be expected to last for 50,000 hours. That’s 2,083 days or 5.85 years. This isn’t an overall lifespan either. That is for continuous usage.

You do not drive your car 24 hours a day, and you may not always drive with your headlights on either.  Most people spend less than an hour per day driving on average. Even if you doubled that, and always had your headlights on, that would mean your headlights would last 25,000 days or over 68 years! In almost all cases, when you buy a car with LED headlights, you will never have to worry about replacing them.
